American Diabetes Alert Day

American Diabetes Alert Day is a day that is dedicated to informing the public about this serious disease.  It is a chronic disease that affects nearly 24 million people in the United States.

You can make a few small changes in your lifestyle to help you stay healthier longer and reduce your risk of diabetes. Change your diet, increase physical activity and maintain a healthy weight. Eating well-balanced meals with the correct portion size is an essential part of being able to manage diabetes.  Oxford HealthCare’s Certified Home Health Aides have gone through a specialty training to better understand diabetes and managing diabetic diets. The following is a list of “diabetes super foods,” beans, dark green leafy vegetables, citrus fruit, sweet potatoes, berries, tomatoes, fish high in Omega 3, whole grains, nuts, fat-free milk and yogurt.
