Home Service Aide

Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions are assigned responsibilities for providing supportive services to consumers in order to maintain their general well-being by assisting with the maintenance of their home environments. This includes performing duties such as homemaking services, chore services, and companionship during respite services.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

The functions performed by employees may include the following:

  • Assists in maintaining and providing a clean, safe environment for consumers in their homes.
  • Provides homemaking assistance as directed on the consumer Service Plan – dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sanitizing bathrooms, cleaning out refrigerators, changing linens.
  • Provides chore assistance as directed on the consumer Service Plan -- one- time deep cleaning/organizing to get home into a maintainable fashion.
  • Provides laundry assistance as directed on the consumer Service Plan – both in home or off site as indicated by consumer’s access to washing machines.
  • Performs errands for consumers as directed on the Service Plan – may include grocery shopping, medication pickup for supply replenishment.
  • Provides companionship and socialization to care recipients while performing respite services for caregivers.
  • Ensures safety/supervision of care recipients while performing respite services for caregivers.
  • Submits monthly work schedules per company protocol.
  • Follows monthly work schedules to ensure consistent service provision to consumers.
  • Charts observations and activities, reporting pertinent changes in the consumer’s condition.
  • Prepares and submits productivity documentation in a timely and complete fashion.
  • Participates in in-service education programs and other meetings as required.
  • Assures access to reliable transportation in order to get to each consumer home.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to Field Management Assistant or Program Director.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS:

The Home Service Aide position has two levels, which are distinguished based on the successful completion of typical functions and the continued, consistent provision of quality services.

Level I .......... Salary Band: C

This is the basic level where employees perform routine entry level work and receive training in providing care or services to consumers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the English language in order to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to record observations and activities, to follow oral and written directions, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Good command of the English language is required.

Education and Experience - 18 years of age or older; high school graduate or equivalent preferred; six months paid or unpaid experience caring for the elderly, ill or disabled preferred.

Level II .......... Salary Band: D

This is the leadership level of this position where employees perform all activities indicated on Service Plans with consistent quality and provide education to community members related to available services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus knowledge of planning and organizing work assignments. Ability and willingness to mentor new peers within the same demographic area. Ability to knowledgeably educate community members on program services.

Education and Experience required at this level consists of five years of experience in providing consumer care.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Home Service Aide positions require the possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, a willingness and ability to travel for work related activities, successful completion of OSHA training, and a clear OSBI report at the time of appointment.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and exerting up to 10# force occasionally
  • Exerts up to 20# force occasionally or frequently, and/or up to 10# constantly.
